Faith Will See Us Through

Faith Will See Us Through is a photographic project centered on my grandparents and the home they have shared for nearly forty years. Having grown up next door, I was practically raised in that house and its rooms and walls carry a lifetime of personal and familial memories that fade alongside it.

Now that my grandparents have entered the final stages of their lives, I feel an increasing importance to document both their environment and the harsh realities and challenges of aging within it. This work reflects my Granny’s anxiety and the comfort she finds within her Catholic faith, alongside my Papa’s constant need to stay active, even as he adjusts to the limitations and lifestyle changes that have been brought on by a potentially devastating knee surgery. Together, their experiences reveal a period marked by vulnerability and fragility, but also this resilience, and adaptation, as they increasingly struggle to care for themselves and the home they’ve lovingly cherished.

Using a 4×5 view camera, I am creating images that display these intensely intimate, and transitional moments of their lives, capturing not only their presence, but also the objects and spaces that hold their lifelong routines, histories, and most cherished memories.
